Two-wheeler's and slow vehicles banned in Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway?

Tuesday, September 14, 2021

If reports are to be believed, a proposal is on its way to ban two-wheeler's, auto-rickshaws, tractors and other ‘slow-moving’ vehicles from entering the main carriageway of Bengaluru-Mysuru express way.

Citing an increase in accidents involving motorbikes on the highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) decided to keep two-wheeler off the six-lane highway. According to the proposal, motorcycles may be permitted only on the service roads. Auto-rickshaws, tractors and other ‘slow-moving’ vehicles also shall be barred from the proposed corridor. Two-wheeler and slow moving vehicles may cause hindrance to the other vehicles, officials said. One of the reason cited is the many instances where bikers cut cross lanes, troubling other fast moving heavy vehicles.

Currently in India, two-wheeler are not allowed on the Nehru Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad or the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway - the elevated highway that connects Mehdipatnam to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Road in Hyderabad.
