Monday, September 13, 2021

Scores of passengers travelling from Mysuru to Bengaluru had a miraculous escape on Saturday night as the driver averted a mishap near a bridge over a river in Srirangapatna.

The driver, who had taken ill, managed to avert the catastrophe.

The KSRTC bus from Nanjangud depot of KSRTC was heading from the heritage city to the capital. When it reached the Lokapavani river bridge near Mandya, the driver, who suffers from low blood pressure, experienced unease. As his BP went down, his vision is said to have got blurry and he started losing control over the wheel. As soon as he realized that the bus could topple off the bridge, he managed to take some action. His only option was to hit a nearby truck. In the melee, the bus hit the truck and stopped. Though the driver was injured in the accident, he ensured that no passenger was hurt.

Police said a biker who was behind the bus hit the bus and went under the wheels. Luckily, as the bus had stopped in the nick of time, the biker’s life was saved though his vehicle was damaged. Later, the police rushed to the spot and the driver was shifted to Mysuru hospital where he is recuperating.
